Yankees 3, Tigers 1  (36-29)

The Tigers three game winning streak came to an end as they were held in check by Al Downing.  The only run the Tigers managed off Downing came in the sixth inning when Al Kaline singled home Dick Tracewski.

Denny McLain dropped to 8-8 after a rough outing.  He gave up the three runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings of work.
