Could you make note somewhere regarding Sept. 27, 1967, that the losses by the Red Sox and the Twins on this day meant a 4-way tie for AL pennant was no longer possible? Those results left the Twins and Red Sox 1 game apart in the standings, and, ignoring any possible playoffs, the only games left for these teams in the 1967 regular season were 2 AGAINST EACH OTHER.

Twins had the best lineup in the AL for most of the decade, with Killer, Oliva and Allison. Add some good seasons from Carew, Battey, Hall and Versalles and you had a team that could light up the scoreboard anywhere. What's so often forgotten about these guys is how good their defense was. Allison was super in the outflield, as was Oliva. Rollins quietly did the job at the hot corner, but would never get much recognition as that superman in Baltimore got all the headlines.

Horlen was a master in an era of wizards. Man, I miss the Sixties baseball. Great hitters, unbelievable pitching and lots of heads up baserunning. The ChiSox were punchless but far from dull. I used to catch the radio broadcasts all the way down here in Texas. So many of their games were nail biters that hinged on attempts to advance an extra base and then score on a productive out. Good stuff!!

Kansas City Royals didn't exist in 1967. I suspect you're talking about the KC Athletics...hopefully...

And in a clutch performance, at that—a September game against the Detroit Tigers, one of the three teams they were battling for the American League pennant!

One can only wonder how the pale hose would have faved if they had won the bidding war for Ken Harrelson, who was the deciding wild card in the greatest race in history.

remember the 1967 sox like yesterday. first real baseball memories were of their upset pennant. as an aside, Bill Rohr, who pitched the near no-hitter against the Yankees is an attorney in California and is amenable to signing through the mail at no cost. His 1967 card is a more expensive than most high number, but worth it.
