Red Sox 7 (32-31), Yankees 1
Gary Bell improved to 4-6 on the season with a really nice start against the Yankees. He gave up just one run on five hits and four walks with six strikeouts in a complete game. It was Bell’s third complete game in four starts since joining the Red Sox.
Joe Foy had the big hit of the game. His grand slam in the fifth inning not only put the Red Sox on the board but it opened the game up all at once. Carl Yastrzemski followed Foy with a solo homerun for back to back dingers in the fifth. It was Yaz’s 17th homerun of the season.
