Senators 3, Red Sox 2 (69-55)
The Red Sox stay on top of the American League was a short one (at least this time) as they fell from their perch after losing to the Senators to snap a seven game winning streak. Sparky Lyle gave up a run in the top of the ninth that proved to be the game winner and a pretty good start by Jose Santiago went waste. Santiago gave up two runs on two hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in seven innings.
Carl Yastrzemski belted his 32nd homerun, a solo shot in the fourth inning. Norm Siebern singled and drove in the other run for the Red Sox.
