Senators 1, Red Sox 0 (30-29)
Playing two double headers in three games will have it’s effect on a team and the Red Sox had the misfortune of having to do just that. The first game saw the Red Sox lose 1-0 despite a fantastic start by Gary Bell. He fell to 3-6 on the season and he gave up one run on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts in seven solid innings.
Carl Yastrzemski had three hits in the loss but those were mostly negated when he was caught stealing twice. In all, the Red Sox had almost twice as many hits as the Senators (9-5) but they still couldn’t push a single base runner across the plate.

Senators 4, Red Sox 3 (30-30)
The Red Sox took a 3-0 lead into bottom of the ninth only to see the second game of their doubleheader with the Senators disintegrate before their eyes. Bucky Brandon, who was in line for a shutout, gave up three runs as the Senators tied it and then John Wyatt gave up the losing run as the Senators came back to beat the Red Sox 4-3.
Tony Conigiliaro had a nice day at the plate in the loss. He went two for three with a triple and two RBIs.
