Red Sox Move Into Tie For First Place With Doubleheader Sweep Over Senators

The Red Sox made it six straight wins as they took the first game of their doubleheader with the Senators. Jerry Stephenson picked up his first win of the season with a nice start.  He gave up just one run on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.  John Wyatt closed out the game and he picked up his 16th save of the season.

The Red Sox got all of the runs they needed with a pinch hit, two run triple from Dalton Jones.  Jose Tartabull went two for three and he was the only Red Sox hitter to reach base twice.

The Red Sox made it seven straight games as they finished a sweep of their doubleheader over the Senators.  More importantly, the Red Sox moved into a tie for first place in the American League White Sox. 

Gary Bell picked up the win and he improved to 9-10 on the season.  He gave up three runs on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts in seven solid innings.  Bucky Brandon pitched two perfect innings to close out the game and he picked up his second save of the season.

Reggie Smith belted a two run homer in the sixth inning to tie the game up.  George Scott singled, drew a walk and drove in two runs
