Red Sox 5 (20-20), Angels 4 (18-25)
Tom Horton doubled home Reggie Smith in the bottom of the eighth inning to win it for the Red Sox in the first game of their doubleheader with the Angels. The win was the Red Sox second in a row and once again they had pushed themselves back up to .500.
For the Red Sox, Jose Santiago was shelled and he lasted just three innings but the bullpen picked him up. Dan Osinski picked up the win with two shutout innings of relief and John Wyatt pitched a shutout ninth to pick up his fourth save.
Bill Kelso took the loss for the Angels as he gave up the eighth inning run. He tempted fate in all three of his inning with four walks but he was able to pitch himself out of the jams with six strikeouts. Jack Sanford had a mediocre start and he gave up three runs in five innings.
At the plate for the Sox, Mike Andrews doubled twice and he drove in one and scored a run. Jose Tartabull went two for five and he scored a run. For the Angels, Don Mincher went two for three with a two run homer (his tenth of the season) and Jimmie Hall also went yard with a two run shot.

Dennis Bennett pitched the Red Sox to their third straight win and a sweep in their doubleheader over the Angels. He gave up just one run on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts in a complete game. For the Angels, George Brunet dropped to 1-6 on the season with a poor start. He gave up five runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts in just four innings.
Rico Petrocelli provided most of the offense in the win. He went three for four with two runs and two RBIs. For the Angels, Bobby Knoop went two for four and he drove in the lone run with a solo homerun.
