Tigers 2 (35-28), Angels 1 (32-36)

The Tigers won two games in a row for the first time in two weeks in a tight game with the Angels.  The Angels scored a single run in the fourth on Woodie Held’s solo shot and the Tigers didn’t answer until they scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth.  Al Kaline doubled home Don Wert and then Kaline scored on Jim Northrup’s single.

Johnny Podres threw a great game for Detroit but he didn’t manage a decision.  He gave up a single run on six hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.  Dave Wickersham picked up the win with two innings of relief and he improved to 4-0 on the season.  George Brunet took the loss foe the Angels and he dropped to 3-11.
