Tony Conigliario belted a huge three run homer in the top of the sixth inning to give the Red Sox the runs they needed in their win over the Athletics.  George Scott belted a solo homerun.

Gary Bell picked up the win with a nice start.  He gave up three runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.  John Wyatt threw 1 1/3 perfect innings and he picked up his ninth save of the season.
